Dominican Republic - Trip Reports

Melia Santo Domingo

I stayed at this hotel on Jan. 2004 and my experience was excellent! I strongly recommend this hotel for anyone who is looking for a fancy hotel that is reasonably priced (I paid about 100 a nite). The hotel is popular with more europeans than americans. The lobby includes a romantic piano bar, sofa lounges, surrounded by dim lights. The sound of the waterfall that is on the background makes you feel relaxed. The hotel has a 2nd floor pool that was never crowded in the mornings complete with a bar. The pool is huge! The fitness room is right there. I didnt go inside but from what i saw it looked a little small. My room was a standard. It was very nice and maintained. Hot water is plentiful and I did not notice any chips or cracks on walls. The cable satellite worked well too. Beds were king size. My room had a very small terrence but there are other rooms that have terrences big enough to fit a table and chairs. The food at "Da Vinci" (restaurant downstairs) was excellent. Breakfast and lunch serve buffet while dinner is a la carte. My only thing is that it gets pretty chilly in the lobby so for those sensative to cold, I suggest to bring a sweater, as I found that useful! The hotel was undergoing a few renovations, nothing distracting but I can imagine what this place will be like in a few months! Bottom line, its a fancy place with huge chandeliers all over!

Thanks to Martha for this trip report ...
