British Virgin Islands - Trip Reports

Anegada Reef Hotel

We could not have been more pleased to reach our destination - Anegada. We had a very rough crossing from Tortola to Anegada and all the passengers were happy to land at the small dock area on the island. We were met at the ferry dock by the Anegada Reef driver who drove us back to the hotel - all of about 200 yards!

We stayed in the Anegada Reef Hotel for four days over New Year 2007-2008. The hotel ambience - as expected - is extremely relaxed. A small bar on the beach is the hub of the activity - mostly sailors, a few day-trippers and a few longer term visitors like us.

Rooms are Spartan but clean. No TV or fridge which is ok. You can get a full ice bucket from the bar. Food great, lobster the specialty. There are also a number of beach bars within walking distance - all worth a visit. Neptune's Hotel is a three or four minute walk away for the Anegada Reef - food here recommended as well as the bar where you can meet a number of friendly local characters.

The hotel owners and management were always available and willing to help us of with good treks, best snorkeling, etc. A shuttle service (cost US$3/trip) means there is no need to rent a car. Scooter rentals are available - although most of the roads aren't very scooter friendly.

All in all, this island is highly recommended. We might try Neptune's Treasure hotel next time but we were sure that it would be very similar to style and ambiance to Anegada Reef. The lasting memory is the deserted beaches and exquisite beaches. This is one of the Caribbean's last unspoiled islands.

Thanks to Gord for this trip report ...
