St. Martin - Trip Reports

Blue Bay Mount Vernon Resort

Why I just got back on January 1st, 2001.

I give it my highest recommendations.

With a few qualifiers

1. If you are interested in naturism. Be careful. The place frowns on naturism. 20 minute walk to Club Orient. As a side note: I found that half the people in Club Orient beach were clothed (I think clothing should be forbidden at Club Orient- like Cap d'Adge)

2. I rank it 3 1/2 stars

(Food 3 stars Activities 3 stars Beach 4 1/2 stars Quality of rooms 4 stars)

3 You mentioned family. With kids it is an excellent choice. The kids will enjoy the place.

4. St Martin is a pricey island. Blue Bay is excellent value.

5. I found the food staff friendly

6. Good beach

Comments on the resort:

Nice resort and there is nothing wrong with the resort.

The location is on a hill. You have to climb a small hill to get to the restaraunt. You then climb down the hill for the beach. It is not suitable for those of our friends in a wheelchair

The beach is a white sand beach with very clear waters.

The rooms are large

The bathrooms are nice

They all have a couch for sitting And they have a small fridge

I did not like the bed. The Mattress did not fit the box spring.

If you pay for an ocean view room you will be able to see the ocean

I am in the position where I have stayed from 3 to 5 star resorts and I can only rank it

3½ stars

I give it 3 stars for food and animation staff

The lunch was weak. It was the same thing every day.

Breakfast is served in the main building

They have a dinner restaraunt - and a beach side grill. they had excellent barbecue

They had outstanding desserts. The best I ever seen.

The animation staff were very French. You have to initiate something with them (as compared to very outgoing staff in other resorts) If you did they would be energetic. If not they will leave you alone

Blue Bay is not located in town. This contrasts to other resorts I have been where I was in town and the town rocked (I am thinking Cancun, Mexico which I liked).

Cabs to town are expensive $22 US each way

There is no safety concerns around the resort. You will not be bothered with hawkers if you walk to the main Orient Beach

Topless is common

NOW THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT:

Make sure you are on the all inclusive plan vs the Flexi-plan. If you are on the Flexi -Plan they will add substantial charges everywhere.

I think Blue Bay is an excellent 3 1/2 star resort which is good value in expensive St. Martin.

Over all, an excellent choice to enjoy St. Martin for the family oriented group

Thanks to Paul for this trip report ...
