Trip Reports

Turks & Caicos Islands

Beaches Resort, Provo

We just got back last night from our Beaches vacation. We flew on their Miami Air charter which originated in Boston and picked us up in Newark. They were very professional, greeted us at curbside and whisked us in. Upon return, check-in for theairport is at the hotel(this part was very slow...go later rather than earlier)but convenient. We had a two hour delay and stayed at the hotel and got our usual drinks and lobster dinner before leaving (Saturday night is seafood night throughout the resort restaurants).

We (myself, husband and three kids ages 11, 9 & 5) all felt it was the vacation of a lifetime! And that's even with our personal mini-disasters taking place! Beaches helped us out tremendously on two of these disasters.

We enjoyed ourselves as a family and individually as by the end of the week, all 3 kids got to making friends and wanting to spend time with them at their camps giving us some free time as well.

The place was crowded but it is also large enough to handle it. The most we ever waited for a table at dinner was 20 minutes one night, otherwise, we were seated immediately.

We stayed in 2 adjoining rooms in the east wing. They were okay. Could use a little sprucing up, but clean. Given the choice of 5 in one room in the French Village or two rooms here, we were glad for the separate bedrooms and extra bathroom.

The kids camps were EXCELLENT. All 3 kids really enjoyed going. They even went back to dinner with their camps on 2 nights so we got to go out to the adult only restaurants alone...like the old pk days (pre-kids).

The staff throughout is wonderful. They truly try to accomodate all your needs. Most restaurant service was great, although some slow, especially at Schooner's...even in spite of that, it was our favorite place to eat both breakfast and dinner!

The best snorkeling we have ever done was done here. The best reef was at Bight Reef, facing the water, walk to the left apx 10-15 minutes. It was incredible and right off the beach! We saw sea turtles and barracuda and the most incredibly colored fish!

Our 5 year old snorkeled with us too and LOVED it. Bring a few disposable underwater cameras...you'll definitely us them up!

Dress code is bathing suits with coverups for breakfast and at all the luncheon buffets except at Arizonas where it was okay to just wear a sarange...tops were required elsewhere. Dinner was casual, shorts and shirts, sundresses, etc. Sapodillas and French restaurant requires slacks for men, even though most wore slacks and sandals. At french restaurant we did see some guys in shorts, though. Try the creme brulee for dessert at Sapodillas, it was EXCELLENT...here the food was very good, not quite gourmet, but they did try. Entree was very good but caesar salad and appetizer just ok.

Hobie cat lessons and wind-surfing lessons are included as are diving lessons and snorkeling boat trips. We enjoyed 3 of them, but Bight Reef was the best! Just be careful as the water is very shallow in some parts so be sure to go around the outsides as much as possible.

We're already talking about when we're going back!

It really was a vacation of a lifetime for my family!

Thanks to Carla for this trip report ...
